This project is designed to extend and refurbish the ground floor of a relatively new mews house in Dalston, East London. 

The house is the last in a small terrace of homes, and unfortunately when it was built little thought was given to the unique aspect of this home, which has a garden facing the end of the terrace. The garden beyond is at a raised level and the existing connection between the interior and the garden is poor. Various layouts were developed but the selected proposal uses the added interior space to mediate between the ground floor interior and the raised garden level beyond. The extension is characterised by the pitched roof that lifts the internal space up to the new garden views. The garden is kept at the raised level so that it benefits from as much sunlight as possible. The extension is designed to be submerged in the stepping garden terraces so that the external planting will fill the view from the new kitchen.
